The plan
Day 1: settling in
Unpack, then a gentle first walk to the Waulsort ferry: children love crossing the Meuse by boat. In the evening, the first barbecue on the terrace, cheeks still pink from the fresh air.
Day 2: underground
The Han caves estate fills the whole day, with the caves and the wildlife park. Back at the bungalow, everyone tells their story around the table, outside in the evening light.
Day 3: Dinant
Morning coffee in the sun on the terrace, then the cable car up to the citadel and a short kayak trip with Dinant Évasion (from age 5, depending on the water level).
Day 4: over to France
In Givet, just across the border, Charlemont fort and its play trail for the kids.
Day 5: lake day
Lac de Bambois for a walk around the water and, in season, supervised swimming. In the evening, sausages and skewers on the barbecue while the children lay the table outside.
Day 6: forest animals
The Saint-Hubert wildlife park, a walk among deer and wild boar.
Day 7: if it rains
The indoor pool in Beauraing, or the escape room in Hastière for older children. And if the autumn half-term turns chilly, head back and light the open fire: hot chocolate in the living room to the crackle of the logs.
