The plan
Saturday: down the river
The classic trip runs from Houyet to Anseremme: 21 km, about 5 hours of paddling through a protected valley, with two small weirs to cross. For a shorter version, Gendron to Anseremme is 12 km.
With Dinant Évasion, you leave the car in Anseremme and a shuttle bus takes you to the start. Booking is recommended in summer. Check the river is open before you go: trips are suspended when the water is too low.
The highlight: paddling beneath Walzin castle, perched on its rock above the Lesse. In the evening, a drink at Le Rio in Waulsort, then back to the bungalow: a shower, swimsuits drying in the sun and the barbecue sizzling on the terrace while you relive the trip, laughing.
Sunday: loosen up
Coffee in the sun on the terrace, then an easy loop to the Cascatelles, or the steps up to Dinant citadel for the brave. Experienced climbers will find what they need at the Freÿr rocks.
