The plan
Saturday: the Molignée valley
In the morning, a tasting at Château de Bioul, a wine estate. At lunchtime, Maredsous abbey for its beer and cheese. In the afternoon, the small producers nearby: Destrée biscuits, the Warnant snail farm and Le Chêneau trout farm.
In the evening, two options: a fine table such as Restaurant Primitif in Gedinne or Petit Pays in Namur, or dinner at the bungalow with your finds.
In summer, the Chêneau trout goes on the barbecue and you eat outside on the south-facing terrace. In winter, open a bottle of Meuse wine by the crackling fire and let the Maredsous cheese do the rest.
Sunday: a basket to take home
The farms around Hastière: La Ferme du Crestia in Doische for meat and charcuterie, the Frumont organic farm, Du Pery butcher’s. To finish, Château Bon Baron, a wine estate on the Meuse.
Many producers open only on certain days or by appointment. Our tip: a quick call before you go saves a closed door.
